My feeling about what is important when teaching
children is about letting them "do it" versus having something
"pretty" to take home. It is all about the process not the final
product. I work very hard each day on creating an "I Can Do It"
atmosphere for the children who attend my child care. One of the hardest hurdles
when teaching to mixed ages in home child care is trying to
make time to reach each child and each age group. I strive
to carve time out of our day each day to give each child
time to help the achieve a goal or experience they are
working towards. Other than lunchtime - this is probably my
biggest challenge of the day!
Infants - during the
first year of your child's life I will work with him or her
and you to help make sure they work towards and achieve each
and every milestone they can. I make sure their environment
is safe, loving and nurturing. I do work with the infants on
sign language, verbal language (expressive and receptive)
along with gross and fine motor skills plus so much more!
Toddlers - during the toddler years we focus a lot
on modeling appropriate behavior from how to treat our
friends to how to express our thoughts and feelings to how
to play with others. We start experimenting with play-dough,
coloring, putting puzzles together and so much more. Both as
an infant and toddler - your child will be invited to join
our circle time to listen and join in on our learning time
which includes calendar, ABCs, numbers, shapes, colors,
story time, and music and movement time. As your toddler is
developmentally ready he or she will be invited to work with
our preschoolers in their craft/writing time each day.
Preschoolers - I am currently creating my own curriculum
program for the children using a variety of curriculums and media I
have used in the past which is very adaptable
to a range of ages of children and abilities. I try to make
sure your preschooler is offered a structured preschool time
each day but it isn't our focus all day. Children still need
plenty of time to be able to have free choices of what they
want to do and to be able to use their imagination to help
encourage their creativity. I respect and understand that. I
am flexible where if we need to skip our preschool time or
shorten it because of lack of interest, we do that if we
need to.
